Allan Stewart will play ‘Mother Superior’ when the show opens at Festival Theatre Edinburgh from Tuesday 20 April to Saturday 1 May 2021.
Scottish comedian and impressionist Allan Stewart is the much-loved star of the famous Pantomime at the King’s Theatre Edinburgh. Allan’s career in entertainment spans over 60 years and his television career began with appearances on LWT’s ‘Copy Cats’, the ‘Live From…’ series and ‘Chain Letters’.
He then went on to present two TV game shows, performed at two Royal Variety Performances and starred in five TV series for STV, including ‘Hello Goodevening’ and ‘Welcome’ (The Allan Stewart Tapes).
Allan’s previous theatre credits include the hit Marie Jones play, ‘Stones in His Pockets’. He also won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Roger De Bris in the touring production of Mel Brooks’ ‘The Producers’.
Allan Stewart’s Big Big Variety Show opens at the King’s Theatre Edinburgh Tuesday 10 March for the final run after 6 successful years.
Based on the iconic movie, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.
Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
Sister Act features original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken(Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted), lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.
Sister Act is produced by Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg. Tom Leonardis, Head of Whoopi’s production company, will also be on the producing team.
