What do you get when you turn a classic Shakespeare tragedy on its head, pack it full of thumping pop numbers, a glittering set and a sensational cast? &Juliet, of course!

This telling explores what might have happened if Juliet hadn’t killed herself in the timeless tragedy we all know so well. Throw out everything you thought you knew about Romeo and Juliet and prepare to be blasted with a non-stop array of Max Martin’s cheesy pop.

Dusting off the Bard’s work is no new feat but this empowering retelling takes the quill from Shakespeare’s hand and places it in the assured control of his wife, Anne, who brings a feminist punch to the narrative.

&Juliet opens the classic to new audiences in a clever blending of song and story in a way that only a jukebox musical can. Hit after hit is reimagined – enhanced even – by a powerhouse cast who hits every note without breaking a sweat.

Matt Cardle delights as the smooth-talking – sometimes even smarmy – Bard, and is the perfect balance to Lara Denning’s feisty Anne, herself on a mission to find her own voice in this upside-down tale.

Stepping into the shoes – or sneaks – for Wednesday’s press performance as the punchy Juliet, Psalms-Bussu Nyers-Reid bursts with energy as the empowered protagonist. Not a beat is missed by this exceptional lead – or the vast ensemble around her.

Dr Ranj Singh swaps his stethoscope and Strictly sequins for a hilarious hammed up Lance, who wrings the audience for every cringe they’ve got. Sandra Marvin‘s Nurse Angelique brings the house down with a version of Pink’s “Fuckin’ Perfect” that almost brings the audience to their feet.

The ovations, of course, are held for the curtain call – and it’s impossible not to reward this exceptional cast for their efforts.

This bold, brash glittering evening of song is a sure-fire hit with the Glasgow audience. The joyful noise has an unusually lengthy two weeks in Glasgow’s King’s, so there’s no excuse to miss out on this fabulous, uplifting show!
